ETD Racing Traction Bar Tech Install
click for:
88-91 CRX & 90-93 Integra 92-01 Civic and 94-01 Integra Radiator Brackets

These are generic install instructions for our traction bars for 88-91 and 90-93 traction bars.  If you bought a 92-01 Civic Integra unit this will assist you as well but some portions of the install will be slightly different but should be fairly obvious when you look at your kit vs. these instruction.  Please feel free to call 905-953-9260 or email info [at] etdracing [dot] com with any questions you may have.

Please note that we are not using the control arm mount that is in this picture anymore.  We were having some binding problems with it and have converted to the style in the picture below

88-91 CIVIC & 90-93 INTEGRA TRACTION BARS
INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

Parts list: 1 traction bar, 2 front LCA jumper brackets, 2 LCA bracket spacers, 2 radius arms, 2 RH thread heim joints w/ jam nuts, 2 LH thread heim joints w/ jam nuts, 4 chassis mounting bolts w/ 4 washers, 4 LCA bracket bolts /w lock washers, 2 large bolts w/ nylon locking nuts.

1) Begin by raising your car on a hoist or jack it up and support it safely with jack stands. We will be removing the factory front cross member and radius arms. You will want to first unbolt the factory radius arms from the top of the front LCA (Lower Control Arm) on both sides of the car. Remove the two bolts that hold each radius arm in place and set them aside.

2) Next you need to unbolt the front crash mount from the center of your factory cross member. You will see a large bolt passing through the mount, remove it now and set it aside. Located on each end of the cross member you will see 2 large bolts holding it to the frame of the car. Remove only 1 bolt completely from each side, then remove the last 2 bolts while carefully lowering the cross member off the car and set it aside.

3) Once again, locate the front crash mount, which is held to the transmission by 2 bolts. Remove these bolts and the mount and set them aside.

4) Now you can put your new traction bar in position and line up the holes on the end plates with the holes on the car that held the original cross member in place. Thread in the 4 provided chassis mounting bolts and washers by hand at first, to mount your new traction bar in place. When the threads on all four bolts have been started you can tighten them all down securely to 60ft/lbs.

5) Now lay out your new radius arms, heim joints, jam nuts and hardware on a bench or table. Thread the jam nuts onto each of the heim joints and then thread the joints into the radius arms. Be sure to remember that 2 joints are RH thread and the other 2 are LH thread.

6) Using the bolts provided, mount the radius arms to the gussets on the traction bar and tighten them securely. To mount the radius arms to the front LCA's, you will need to use the provided LCA jumper brackets, mounting bolts and spacers. First place the bracket over the top of the heim joint and use one of the bolts to thread it into the front hole on the LCA. You will now notice a gap between the other end of the bracket and the back hole in the LCA. Use the spacer to close this gap and thread in another mounting bolt. When the brackets and spacers are in place correctly, tighten all 4 of the bolts down securely to 30ft/lbs.

7) It is time to lower the car all the way to the ground and adjust the radius arm tension. This is done by reaching under the car and turning the radius arms with your hand, until slight tension is felt on the radius arm assembly. Be sure that the jam nuts are backed off enough so you don't hang up on them while you are adjusting the arms.

8) When the radius arm tension is set correctly. Be sure to tighten all of the jam nuts securely, which will lock the radius arms in place. Note: Due to the fact the factory cross member and radius arm assembly play a role in the alignment of the front end, we recommend getting an alignment done on the car soon after installation of our traction bar kit.

Install Pictures for 92-01

We know that a picture is worth a thousand words so here are a few various shots of the install on a EG6 civic.  It will show you all the basic info you need to install the bar.   This should be all the info and pics you need.  If you can't figure it out from these pics, please take it to a shop to do the install.
Bolt the bar up to the chassis with three supplied mounting bolts.
Install the LCA mounting bracket.
Install the radius arm.  Remember to use the spacers on each side of the rod end, tapered side in towards the rod end.

Twist the radius arm so it's just snug.  If its pulling forward or pushing back on the control arm it will pull your toe way out of alignment.

Here is another shot, note the way the spacers are installed.  You can also see the engine mount from the 92-01 bar that has the engine mount for B-Series engines included.
A shot of the radius arm hooked up to the LCA.
Another view.
Lots of room for a header.
Complete install shown here.

(Ignore the exhaust on this car obviously its being changed over to another setup)

Closer shot from the under side of the arm and engine mount.

Radiator Brackets

there are infinite ways to use these brackets.  We have seen a lot of creative and different uses for these on many different setups.  Here are a few photos of the basic idea.  Really the sky is the limit with how you use these.
Here is a typical install using the hole at the end with the grommet installed and the mount angled outwards.   Also note the hole in the center for a center mounting position.
Here the mount is positioned straight up for a center mounting idea, the grommet is installed upside down so it is locked in place and the rad will sit right on top of the bar.
